Stream Violet | Viola glabella

$5.00

Viola glabella, commonly known as Pioneer Violet, Stream Violet, or Smooth Yellow Violet, is a charming perennial native to moist forests, streambanks, and shaded woodlands of western North America, including California. This delicate plant is often among the first to bloom in spring, brightening shaded understories with cheerful yellow blossoms.

Stream Violet thrives in rich, moist soils and prefers partial to full shade, making it an ideal addition to shaded native gardens, woodland plantings, or naturalized areas near water. Its heart-shaped leaves and bright flowers provide early nectar for pollinators, including native bees and butterflies. After flowering, it produces small seed capsules that self-sow readily, helping colonies establish naturally over time.

This perennial herb typically grows 6–12 inches tall. Each flower is about 1–1.5 centimeters across, bright yellow with darker purple guidelines that guide pollinators to nectar. Leaves are smooth, glossy, and broadly heart-shaped, creating a soft groundcover effect.
