Scarlet Clarkia | Clarkia amoena 'Scarlet'

$5.00

Clarkia amoena ‘Scarlet’ is a colorful annual garden selection of Farewell to Spring, also known as Godetia Scarlet Clarkia. Derived from a species native to western North America, including California, ‘Scarlet’ is cultivated for its vibrant scarlet-red flowers. The plants form compact, branching mounds with narrow green leaves and clusters of silky blooms. Flowers open successively along the stems, creating a lasting display in garden beds and fresh bouquets.
Plant in groups for a bright splash of color in borders, cottage gardens, and containers. Prefers full sun near the coast and benefits from afternoon shade in hot inland locations. Grow in average, well-drained soil with low to moderate moisture during establishment and flowering. Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer, which encourages leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
Sow directly outdoors in fall in California’s mild-winter areas, or in early spring in colder locations. No scarification or cold stratification is ordinarily needed. Press the tiny seeds onto the soil surface, as light supports germination, and keep evenly moist without waterlogging. Thin seedlings to approximately 6–12 inches apart.

Height: 12–24 inches.
Recommended Germination Temperature: 55°F–70°F.
Blooming Period: Summer; timing varies with sowing date and climate.
Germination: Approximately 5–35 days.
Sowing Depth: Surface sow; press gently into the soil.
