Ithuriel's Spear (Triteleia laxa) Seeds
Triteleia laxa, also known as Ithuriel’s spear or grassnut, is a native California wildflower prized for its striking clusters of star-shaped blue to violet flowers. Found naturally in grasslands, open woodlands, and foothills throughout central and northern California, it thrives in well-drained soils and sun to partial to full shade. A true California bulb, it dies back in summer and reemerges each spring with a flourish of color that attracts bees, butterflies, and native pollinators.
This perennial wildflower grows from a small corm and can naturalize over time in the right conditions. Best planted from seed in the fall to allow natural winter stratification. Though slow to bloom from seed (typically flowering in the second or third year), it’s a rewarding and low-maintenance addition to native gardens, meadowscapes, or borders. Deer resistant and drought tolerant once established.
