Fragrant Evening Primrose | Oenothera cespitosa

$5.00

Oenothera cespitosa is a perennial wildflower known by the common names Fragrant Evening Primrose and Tufted Evening Primrose. Native to western North America, including California's inland and desert regions, this low-growing beauty is prized for its large, glowing white blooms and sweet, lemony fragrance that intensifies at dusk. Each flower opens in the evening and fades by morning, making it a moon garden favorite and a delight for night-flying pollinators like moths and native bees.
Oenothera cespitosa forms tidy rosettes of gray-green foliage and thrives in hot, dry spots with excellent drainage. It’s a champion for rock gardens, dry borders, and habitat landscapes. Blooming begins in spring and can extend through summer with occasional deep watering. It prefers lean, gravelly soils and full sun but can tolerate some light shade. Deer typically leave it alone, but your local pollinators won’t be able to resist!
