$5.00

Lomatium californicum is a native perennial herb commonly known as California rock parsnip or celery weed. Found throughout California, especially in foothills, coastal ranges, and rocky slopes, it thrives in dry, well-drained soils and sunny conditions. Adapted to chaparral and woodland habitats, this hardy member of the carrot family (Apiaceae) is drought-tolerant once established and attracts pollinators, including native bees and butterflies. The deeply divided, lacy green leaves emit a strong celery-like scent when crushed—hence the nickname "wild celery." In early spring, it sends up tall, hollow stems topped with golden-yellow umbels of tiny flowers. A great addition to wildlife-friendly or low-water native gardens. Can be used medicinally by those familiar with native plant uses.
Grows from a thick taproot and prefers lean soils. Will go dormant in summer heat—don’t worry, it’s just taking a seasonal siesta.
