California Poppy "Purple Gleam" | Eschscholzia californica Seeds
California Poppies thrive in full sun and prefer well-drained soil, including sandy, poor, or dry soils. They are famously easy to grow, drought tolerant once established, and best direct-sown where they are to bloom, since they dislike transplanting. Fall sowing in California often produces spring bloom, while spring sowing can produce summer bloom. Deadheading may extend the flowering period, and plants may reseed under favorable conditions.
The foliage is finely divided and blue-green, forming a soft, ferny mound beneath the bright cup-shaped flowers. Like other California Poppies, the flowers tend to open in sunlight and close during cloudy weather or at night. A beautiful choice for adding a romantic lavender-pink note to a California native-inspired seed mix or wildflower patch.
