California Poppy - Eschscholzia californica. The ultimate self-seed ground cover annual that will grow almost anywhere producing a profusion of color on a foot stem with silky 2-3 inch wide cups in orange color, above mounds of attractive feathery green foliage. Sprinkle seeds in the garden in the early spring or late fall and lightly tap on the soil. When seedlings are 2-3" tall, thin to approximately 1 plant per square foot. Does not need supplemental water once mature AND thrives on neglect. Cut spent flowers to promote continuous bloom. Will reliably reseed year after year.
