

Serpentine (Crimson) Columbine | Aquilegia Eximia
Aquilegia eximia is a species of an endemic to California columbine, also known by the common names Van Houtte's columbine or Serpentine columbine for its tolerance and adaptability to California's serpentine soil. This is a perennial plant growing to 3-5' tall and wide. In its native range the plant prefers moist forests in the coastal ranges. Needs full to part sun, with more shade added in the inland areas. Flowers are just like jester hats, with beautiful red and orange colors and attract hummingbirds.
IMPORTANT: Seeds need 3 months cold stratification. Place seeds in the fridge or sow outside in the fall. Tolerates cold to -23 F.
