Fringe Cups | Tellima grandiflora
Tellima grandiflora, commonly known as Fringe Cups or Bigflower Tellima, is a perennial herb in the saxifrage family native to western North America, including much of California. It thrives in moist, shaded habitats such as forest understories, streambanks, and woodland edges. This plant forms basal rosettes of rounded to heart-shaped leaves with scalloped margins, often mottled with purplish hues.
The flower stems rise above the foliage, reaching 1–3 feet in height, and bear elongated racemes of many small, fringed, bell-shaped flowers. Each bloom is greenish-white to pinkish, aging to deeper rose tones, giving the plant its distinctive and delicate appearance. Fringecup is highly valued in native plant gardens for its ability to naturalize in shady areas and for its extended bloom period. It is especially attractive to pollinators and adds charm to woodland gardens.
