Phacelia campanularia is a striking California native annual wildflower known by the common names Desertbells, DesertBluebell, and California Bluebell. Native to the deserts of Southern California, it is especially admired for its vivid cobalt to royal-blue, bell-shaped flowers with contrasting golden anthers. This showy annual thrives in full sun and well-drained sandy or gravelly soils, though it tolerates medium-drainage soils as well. It performs beautifully in hot, dry gardens, desert-themed plantings, rock gardens, and native wildflower meadows. It is a fine choice for pollinator gardens, drawing bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. In favorable conditions it may reseed and return in future seasons. The plant forms a low, branching mound with softly hairy stems and leaves, creating a glowing carpet of blue when sown en-masse.
