Coyote Tobacco | Nicotiana attenuata seeds

Nicotiana attenuata, commonly known as Coyote Tobacco, is a distinctive annual wild tobacco native to California and much of western North America. It naturally occurs on dry, sandy or rocky slopes, open banks, disturbed ground, and recently burned areas. The plant develops a basal rosette before producing an upright, branching flower stalk covered with soft hairy, slightly sticky foliage. Slender, trumpet-shaped flowers open primarily in the evening, displaying greenish-white to creamy-white petals that may be lightly tinged with pink or purple. The flowers attract night-flying moths and other pollinators.
Coyote Tobacco prefers full sun and well-drained, sandy or gravelly soil. Its extremely small seeds require light to germinate and should be pressed gently onto the soil surface without covering. Germination is encouraged by warm days, cooler nights, and exposure to smoke compounds associated with wildfire. Keep the surface consistently moist until seedlings become established. All parts of this plant contain toxic alkaloids and should not be consumed.
